Security & Investigations Advisor – (Security Systems Technical Advisor)

This Security Systems Technical Advisor position is responsible for security systems related matters and provides
subject matter expertise with regards to security systems end user elements and operations including, but not
limited to, security system planning and operations, installation & implementation, oversight of quotation for cost
avoidance opportunities, system commissioning, and overall effective coordination for Service and Maintenance.
This will be a role with accountabilities primarily focused on the BC Hydro enterprise system (Lenel OnGuard) and
the related end user elements and operations, including software and hardware required to ensure the systems
function as designed. Secondarily this role has focus on the end user elements and operations of other security
systems currently in use.

Summary of the Role:

Candidates should demonstrate effective collaboration abilities with BC Hydro Corporate Security to draw on and
utilize the subject matter expertise of the field operations personnel as well as the full security team and to deliver
various security program elements.
This Security Systems Advisor role is critical to the success of BC Hydro’s Corporate Security enterprise system.
The desired candidate will possess technical training, experience, and demonstrated proficiency in the areas of
security systems hardware and software function and installation, enterprise security solutions and the ability to
oversee security vendors while they design, quote, implement, commission, operate and provide service and
maintenance for various products to meet BC Hydro Corporate Security requirements and standards. The
candidate will require in-depth experience with access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems
which will allow the advisor to deal with complex enterprise security system issues and tasks ranging from
planning, implementation, commissioning, and sustainment of the system and all of its end user elements and
operations technical pieces.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Occupying the Security Systems Advisor role, you will report to the Corporate Security Manager – Security
Operations in coordination with the Corporate Security team. Your overall goal is to closely monitor the security
vendors and provide them the direction and oversight as they receive assigned work, quote cost estimates,
implement the equipment or repairs, ensure the work is commissioned correctly, and provide strict cost oversight
to billing and close out documents at the conclusion of each work order or project.
You will also be required to work with Corporate Security Project Planners, and vendors to identify effective and
appropriate security solutions using the BC Hydro security application guide combined with your career
experience for security related matters on capital projects for BC Hydro. Your unique expertise in this field will be
drawn upon to ensure the solutions identified are implemented while ensuring financial responsibility for the work
and system. This role will also contribute to the cost-effective management of security service and maintenance
contracts associated with Corporate Security systems. Critical to the achievement of this goal is ensuring that the
security protocols and processes adhere to BC Hydro’s security policy, objectives, standards and work practices.

Other Duties, Responsibilities, and involvement:
* Provision of technical consultation and expertise to members of the Corporate Security team members.
* Site and system assessments and reports.
* Make practical recommendations to the Corporate Security team based on site & technical requirements, new/
available technologies, industry best practices, and value.
* System design, engineering, and architecture
* Project Management
* Quality Control

Qualifications:
* Hold current and valid Lenel Expert Certification in Digital Video and Access Control. Milestone and any
additional electronics or security related certifications being advantageous.
* A variety of educational profiles may apply including those with security recognized certification, security
designation, or related accreditation or discipline.
* Have a minimum of 10 years industry experience having worked successfully as a field technician, system
administrator/ system programmer. Engineering and/or consulting experience would be considered an asset.
* In order to meet these requirements, the qualified individual must maintain his/her existing Lenel technical
certification(s) while participating in future training programs as required.
* In addition to the experience and certifications listed herein, the candidate must be a skilled communicator and
have the ability to offer practical, cost effective, and strategic solutions while remaining focused on outcomes.
* Familiarity with the BC Hydro Enterprise including personnel and previous experience with NERC CIP
regulations would be considered an asset.
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate with an integrated security team to draw on subject matter expertise for
security programs.
* Knowledge of security management protocols.

* Candidates will reside in or close to the Lower Mainland of BC.
* Work base is Burnaby, but work locations will alternate throughout the province of British Columbia.
* Expected to attend the BC Hydro Burnaby Offices approximately 20% of their time.
* Work location/ travel: Up to 20% field time target for this role (depending on phase of projects).
* Unless determined otherwise by Corporate Security the successful candidate will work a 5 day on 2 day off
schedule that may involve weekend and evening shifts including overtime.
* Please note a condition of employment is that a valid Class 5 Driver’s license is held and maintained in good
standing.
* This role is a security sensitive position, and the successful applicant will be required to be eligible for reliability
status level security clearance.
