UBC Security Forum

June 4, our Chapter sponsored and supported this forum at The University of British Columbia — an exceptional and timely event designed specifically for frontline and operational security professionals. A sincere thank you to Sam Stephens, MSc and his outstanding team for their vision, dedication, and flawless execution.

With a sold-out venue and a lineup of phenomenal speakers, the forum clearly exceeded its three core goals:

  • Grow our networks
  • Learn new and relevant content
  • Be inspired to take action

Some standout sessions and speakers included:

  • Carolyn Sinclair & Dr. Bob Rich on stress, resilience, and mental health in security roles
  • Mary Carmichael on the convergence of cyber and physical security
  • David JONES on planning and executing large-scale event security (including FIFA 2026)
  • Justin Hanson, CD on officer safety strategies
  • Rob Angco & Jad Harfouche on investigative interviewing principles
  • Tyler Moore outlining the role and coordination power of E-Comm 911

The day began with opening remarks from UBC President Benoit-Antoine Bacon, a meaningful land acknowledgement by Laurence Paul, and a special guest appearance by Terry Yung, adding great depth to the forum.

Thank you to the many ASIS Canadian Pacific Chapter 190 members who participated and actively engaged throughout the day—your contributions helped make this event such a success and showcased the strength of our professional community.

Events like these remind us that security is not just about systems and protocols—it’s about people, collaboration, and continuous learning. I’m already looking forward to what 2026 will bring!
