Events

Chapter Luncheons are held every fourth Thursday of the month (January thru May, and September thru November) each meeting features a guest speaker and great lunch.  Advance notice is provided via email to those registered on our distribution list.   Unless indicated otherwise, Meetings are held at the Terminal City Club – 837 West Hastings Street, Vancouver, B.C.

Meetings start at 11:30AM and end at 1:30 PM.

RSVP: $40.00 per person if ASIS member and RSVP.  No shows will be invoiced and walk-ins (unregistered) and non-members will be charged $45.00 (we are charged by the plate and must provide accurate numbers).  Walk-in attendees are not guaranteed a plated dinner.

Dress: Business casual, use of cell phones is prohibited in public areas of the club.

Speaker: Ken Haertling, Chief Security Officer TELUS

Topic: Telecom Perspective on Emerging Security Challenges

Description: The session will examine how trends in the telecommunications industry will fundamentally affect the security industry.  Exponential bandwidth requirements that fuel the popularity of fibre optics yield both opportunities and challenges.  Ken will consider the convergence of physical and logical security as it pertains to identity management and physical security infrastructure.  He will highlight additional trends from 2011 and discuss lessons learned.  Finally, Ken will explore popular coping strategies and other opportunities to adapt to the changing environment..

Topic: Next Generation Leader

Description: Francis D’Addario leads the Security Executive Council’s Security 2020™ and Next Generation Leadership initiatives. Previously, his cross-functional teams developed proven practices at Starbucks Coffee, Hardees Food Systems, Jerrico Inc. The Southland Corporation (DBA 7-Eleven) and Crime Prevention Associates. He is a co-developer of RED, an enterprise risk event reporting and analytics tool.

Topic: The Future Security Environment – Can Canada weather the coming Storm

Description: The world appears to be entering a period of perpetual change and rising instability, and if current trends persist the Canadian Forces and the Army will be challenged to defend Canada, Canadians and Canadian interests.  To continue to be effective, the Army will need to evolve far more quickly and more fundamentally than ever before.
